South African-Scottish Family Histories
Anderson, Morgan, Holmes, Wedderburn, Cawood, Spoor, Dunbar and Sinclair

Map of Africa, click for larger image A project involving the family research of the Anderson (1810), Morgan (1738?), Holmes (1810), Wedderburn (1775), Cawood (1775), Spoor (1800), Dunbar (938) and Sinclair (1790) families of Scotland, Wales, England and South Africa is now nearing completion.

The project was started by Estelle Wedderburn on the Wedderburns in the 1960's, Aimee & Allen Cawood on the Cawoods in the 1970's, Audrey Johnston (nee' Morgan) on the Morgans in the 1970's and Pamela Anderson on the Spoors and Andersons in the 1980's. Many of these projects were very advanced and detailed.

In 1987 Mark Anderson took over a section of the project. His object was to recreate and add to the Morgan Family Bible that went missing after the death of Frank van de Riet in Onrust in the 1980's, and add in the other family lines.

click for larger image In 1998 Sheila Paterson, a Genealogist of Cape Town, kindly became involved. Assisted by her expert aid, which included time during a trip to Scotland and England, as well as that of overseas and South African cousins, county and central record offices, family history societies, researchers, internet search and enquiry, and overseas libraries, we have finalised this project, which spread out and became more intensively researched as time went by. Thus the object of the Family History is to accurately show the direct lineal ancestors of the families.

Sheila Paterson has agreed to edit a collection of the materials which will include the direct family tree (NOT SIDE RELATIONS) from Mark Robert Dunbar Anderson (born 01\02\57) through his parents, Kenneth Dunbar Anderson and Pamela Ann Morgan, through the families as shown above. The publication will consist of (for each family):

- a family history inclusive of occupation and anecdote if applicable
- a family tree (direct line only) with dates of birth, marriage and death (where available)
- census reports
- a map of relevant areas
- copies of birth\death certificates if available
- source references for all the above
