Lost Trails Thistle Wilhelmina

Click Here to see larger version of Wilhelmina at age 12 mos.The Dutch children of Willem Moojen are looking for their Scottish half-sister, whom they believe was born in Glasgow in 1943-44. Their father was in the Merchant Navy and he periodically visited Glasgow during the Second World War. He had a relationship with Wilhelmina's mother, a Scottish woman whose name was Kate, probably Catharine. All they know is that Kate's surname might be Davis, Davies or Davidson and that she had a baby - their half-sister- whom she named Wilhelmina.

Wilhelmina's father was a ship's cook who served on various Dutch Merchant Navy ships, but mostly on the "SALAWATTI". While he was docked there Willem stayed overnight with Kate.

From the log book it is known that Willem attended a short course on ship's machine gun (called an Oerlikon in Dutch). He attended this on March 2, 1943. The log book also stated that the Salawatti docked in Glasgow from February 10, 1943 until March 24, 1943.

Kate and Wilhelmina had correspondence with Willem's home address in Ymuiden, Holland up untill 1955, but their letters were intercepted by Willem's mother who destroyed them. The only thing that remains is these two photos of Wilhelmina, one when she was one year old and the other when she was 12 yrs old.

Willem's Dutch children are hoping that Lost Trails will be able to bring them together with their half-sister Wilhelmina.
