MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE, AMEN." "ALSO HIS SON, JOHN DOYLE, DIED JANY. 9, 1864, AGED 28 YEARS" Moses "Mogue" Doyle Born Oulart Hill, Parish of Ferns, County Wexford, Ireland, ca. 1764. Only son of James Doyle & Ann O'Brien; seven sisters. Leader of a group of United Irishmen during 1798 Irish Rebellion. Arrested and sentenced to death by British; escaped by dressing in fiancee's clothing and walking past guards; landed Ship Harbour (Port Hawkesbury), Cape Breton Island 1799. Pardoned, returned to Ireland 1803; married fiancee Judith O'Neill 1806. Remarried after Judith's death, came back to Cape Breton 1826, settled at Margaree Forks, Inverness County. Died at Margaree Forks 4 November, 1839, age 75. Buried at St. Michael's Parish Cemetery, East Magaree. Mogue's three children and all of his sisters and/or their families ultimately emigrated to Cape Breton. His known descendants in the New World number at least 1863; those of his parents, at least 3743.
