Clan Young Contacts

The April 1987 issue of the "Highlander" showed "Young of Auldbar" as a dormant clan, dating to 1672 in Scotland. Edward A Young III of Orlando, Florida contacted the Lord Lyon and was given permission to convene Clan Young, and to display the arms and crest of Peter Young of Auldbar, the last Clan chief of the Youngs. Clan Young convened January 9, 1988 at Orlando, Florida, where it was formally organized a year later with the election of it's first officers.

On May 16,1989 Malcolm R. Innes of Edingight, CVO, WS Lord Lyon King of Arms Scotland, confirmed the right for Clan Young to have a Crest Badge for all members of Clan Young, which would be the Crest of Young of Auldbar within a strap and buckle, with the Motto "Robore Prudentia Pręstat".

The Arms of Auldbar are of considerable antiquity. In 1889, McCall's Some Old Families and Genealogical History of Scotland cited a seal of 1507 having a pile charged in chief with an annulet. As matriculated by Peter Young, his arms were described as: Argent, three piles sable, as many annulets or, in chief sable. His crest: A demi-lion rampant , gules, with sword in dexter paw proper. These were declared to be "ye paternal arms of ye name Young", and Peter Young was thereby made head (or chief) of the family.

On January 1,1992 The Scottish Tartans Society at Comrie, Perthsire, Scotland granted a Certificate of Accreditation for the Young tartan. It is similar to the Douglas tartan, of which we have long been a sept, with the stripe of the Christina Young tartan replacing the stripe of white.

Clan Young began as 5 members in 1987, and now number bell over 400. Since the name Young is a common one, we expect to continue this growth rate, and be a large clan in the future. Clan Young attends Highland Games all over the world. There are members of Clan Young residing in the United States, Canada, Australia and Scotland.
