The long lost Scottish Parliament is formed as we speak… uh, download

It's been nearly 300 years since Scotland had its own Parliament, making today's election an historic event.

Scotland's Daily Record reports that the latest pre-election polls show the Labour party out in front, the SNP comfortably in second, and the Tories in third with Liberal Democrats close on their heels. Take these projections with a grain of salt, however, since 25 per cent of the respondents were undecided the day before the election.

The new Scottish Parliament aims to improve its accessibility to its constituents over that at Westminster, by using video conferencing, and encouraging citizens to submit written petitions. Parliamentary informality will also be on the agenda; Scottish representatives will refer to each other by name instead of using the traditional, "Honourable Member."

Election results will be posted live on the net tonight, beginning around 5 PM EST tonight. Scottish Parliament will sit for the first time on the first of July.
