South African-Scottish Family Histories
Continued From Page One
Anderson, Morgan, Holmes, Wedderburn, Cawood, Spoor, Dunbar and Sinclair

John Dunbar Anderson, click for larger image The above will be bound as one publication (i.e. all families will be included in a single publication, each family being covered by an average of about 12 one side pages) of about 130 pages (total).

Please note that only the direct lines are followed in each family back from M Anderson. Accordingly your name will not be in the Family History, but your grandfather/mother or great grandfather/mother may be shown. As such the project is a Family History and not a Family Tree (which would have been a monumental project for all families).

Please note that some families have more "history" than others do. Families such as the Wedderburns are particularly well documented, with a particularly interesting insert written in the early 20th Century describing 1820 Settler life, whilst at the other end of the scale, the Cawood branch we are descended from is not well documented from the late 1800s, although there is an insert from "Chronicles of Cawood". There are also references to the Johnstons of Hillhead (latterly Natal), Dunbars of Hempriggs, Moodies of Melsetter (related to Wedderburns & Andersons via Dunbar), Ridley of Newcastle area, and other families.

There is also an insert from Audrey Morgan about the Morgans (OFS) in the late 19th Century. The publication is a once off, and will be limited to orders received from family members who have been in contact with the researchers over the 30-year life of the research. About 30 copies will be produced, and orders have been received from Scotland, Australia, the USA, Namibia, and of course South Africa.

The project manager, collator and editor have decided that, due to the complexity of the task, that they cannot offer individual family trees for separate families. That is, the family history is available only as one inclusive publication as stated above.

Binding will take place in July 2000, and posting will be undertaken in late September, 2000. Family members wishing to purchase a copy of the publication are requested to have their cheques with us by the end of January 2001, as the publication run is limited to orders received. Cheques should be made out to M. Anderson and posted to the above address, with your return postal address attached.

PLEASE NOTE: no profit will be made, as costs have been incurred that run back for a generation, and are still being incurred.

Attention visitors: Tartans.com is back. Please note that this is a snapshot of the site as it existed nearly 20 years ago and you may encounter broken links; we are still combing through the site and correcting those as we find them. Please also note that some sections are currently not functional, primarily the discussion forums/clan chat boards.
